Reality shows are one of the biggest things people watch on television. This is because the events that happen are not scripted and naturally unfold in front of the viewer. One show that is helping people want to become healthy again is the biggest loser.

The contestants are a bunch of overweight men and women who work out and go on a diet and at the end of the week; one of these players will be eliminated. The person who loses the biggest number of pounds after a three-month campaign will win $250,000 and have a second chance of living a healthy life.

The individual doesnít have to fight for money in order to make some lifestyle changes. As the saying goes. ëhealth is wealthí and this is something more precious than any sheet of paper with a dollar sign has to offer.

People are able to burn more calories while exercising. This means the body will burn the food eaten and this has to be replaced so there is energy after to do other functions. The individual should get a meal that has the right amounts of carbohydrates, proteins and fats so this can repair damaged tissue, refuel and lower the bodyís cholesterol.

Here are some examples of food that should be eaten after a workout.

Eating bread has been known to replenish the energy lost after a workout. Since this has certain ingredients that are high in bad cholesterol, this can be substituted for wheat bread that is much healthier. Nuts can also help lower the cholesterol and getting some low fat peanut butter will surely make a great sandwich.

Having a fruit is also good to lower the cholesterol. It is advisable to eat as a whole instead of taking away the skin or turning this into a juice. Studies have shown that eating it the way it is keeps the natural fibers that are good for the person. An apple is just one of many fruits that can be eaten once it has been washed.

If the person wants to save some money after going to the gym, it is best to pack some snacks that can be consumed after a workout. Cutting some carrot sticks or slicing a few tomatoes then packing it in a plastic container will come in handy after taking a shower and reporting for work or when going home.

When the person comes home, it is time to prepare something that can provide better sustenance. An example could be having some fish or chicken thrown into the microwave or having it steam. Studies have shown that frying using cooking oil also increases the personís cholesterol level so cooking it in another manner can reduce this.

Having some vegetables along will help make this a healthy meal. Some garlic and onions can be prepared since studies have shown this to lower the liverís production of cholesterol. The serving for tonight can end with some yogurt for dessert leaving the individual satisfied and light.

Lowering the cholesterol will not happen overnight. By observing a proper diet with exercise, the individual will be able to lose weight and cuts down the cholesterol levels that puts the person in potential danger of high blood pressure, a stroke or a heart attack.

We’ve all had days when we didn’t feel like we were ‘on
our game.’ And as we age, both our bodies and our brains grow old as well. By making smart food choices though, we can
preserve our precious gray matter longer and improve brain function. Here are some brainy choices for keeping our
noggins in tip-top shape.

Blueberries have been shown to shield the brain from stress, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. Research has also shown that diets rich in blueberries significantly improved both the learning capacity and motor skills.

Avocados, though considered a ‘fatty fruit,’ contribute
to healthy blood flow and decreased blood pressure, lessening the chances of
developing hypertension, which can lead to a stroke.

Deep-water fish, such as salmon is a wise, freshwater
fish choice. It’s abundant in omega-3
essential fatty acids, which are essential for healthy brain function.

Nuts and seeds are good sources of vitamin E, an
important vitamin needed by your brain to stave off declining cognitive
functions. Cashews, peanuts, walnuts, sunflower and sesame seeds and almonds
are all great choices.

Whole-grain breads, brown rice, and oatmeal also
contribute to a healthy brain by reducing the risk for cardiac disease. By promoting a healthy heart and improved
blood flow, the brain is sure to thrive via excellent oxygen and nutrient
delivery through the bloodstream. Complex carbohydrates
also supply the brain with a steady stream of glucose that enhances brain
function. It’s important to avoid simple carbohydrates often found in junk food
because the glucose gives the brain a short-lived sugar high, often followed by
a crash that makes you feel hungry and tired.

Freshly brewed tea also has potent antioxidants,
especially the class known as catechines, which also promotes healthy blood
flow. Since black teas do contain caffeine it’s important to use it
sensibly.

Dark chocolate has powerful antioxidant properties,
contains several natural stimulants, which enhance focus and concentration, and
encourages the production of endorphins, which helps improve mood. Again,
moderation is the key.

image from @crystalmariesing

We’ve all learned
through the years that a well-balanced diet is healthy for our body and
critical for optimal health and performance.
Our hair is no different A mixture of protein, complex carbohydrates,
vitamins, minerals and iron are all required for healthy, strong hair.

Good hair nutrition
begins with getting enough protein, which is the building block of your hair.
Then you need complex carbohydrates to help assemble the proteins for hair
growth. Other important vitamins and minerals include B complex, which is
associated with energy production and building good hair and skin issues, folic
acid, B12, and zinc.

Hair follicles can
have low energy levels just like we do.
Therefore, it’s very important that you eat a high protein mean at the
start of each day. Consider the
following food choices for breakfast and the other daily meals in order to give
you hair the healthiest opportunity to grow and thrive.

If you don’t have high cholesterol, try eating red meat
twice per week. It has the protein your
hair needs, but also is full of B vitamins, iron and zinc, which are all
important for healthy hair. Bacon is
another great choice as it’s also full of B vitamins, zinc and protein, but
since it’s also high calorie, it’s not the best choice if you’re also trying to
lose weight. Eggs and egg whites are another great protein option, especially
for vegetarians or those who cannot eat red meat or bacon due to dietary
restrictions. Salmon is another great
protein choice, and works great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You’ll find it’s also full of B vitamins,
including B12, and other vitamins and minerals.

Just be sure to keep in mind that you should also have complex
carbohydrates, which feed you energy over a longer period of time than refined
carbohydrates, with your protein source at meals. Brown short-grain rice is an
ideal form. It’s also a good source of B vitamins and some fiber. Whole grain
choices complement your protein consumption by helping organize the proteins
for the hair to utilize for optimal growth and health.

Healthy eating and physical fitness go together, but there are no magic foods that cause you to be one hundred percent healthy by just eating the one food. No, you need a variety of foods from each of these food groups each day. It’s also important to watch the portion size so as not to overeat. Make your mealtimes pleasant and relaxed occasions and your healthy foods will work effectively with your healthy emotions to give you a healthy body.

Berries

image from @stevhar54

You may like all types of berries or just one or two favorites, but you can never go wrong by adding a few fresh berries as a quick energy snack or frozen berries made into a luscious smoothie in place of calorie laden desserts. Berries are high in vitamin C across the board, but some are high in other nutrients as well. Choose ripe blueberries for vitamin C and heaps of anti-oxidants for the health of your circulatory system. Gogi berries are less well-known but are wonderfully rich in many of the nutrients your body needs to be nutritionally and physically fit.

Citrus

image from @Chantelle

The foods of the citrus family are widely recognized as a valuable source of vitamin C. Choose fully ripe citrus fruits for the best nutritional value and choose citrus as near to the tree as possible. Tree ripened fruits picked at the peak of perfection and consumed with hours of picking give you the top nutritional rating. Try grapefruit for breakfast. Add a dash of fresh squeezed lime to your salad as a dressing and enjoy slices of orange with coconut in a light honey dressing for dessert.

Vegetables

image from @natasa.goras

The variety of vegetables is amazing. For people who are vegetarian or vegan, choosing vegetables to be part of a nutritionally sound diet is a way of life. Your vegetable group provides many of the minerals required in a good diet. For example, you may realize that potassium is necessary for healthy nutrition. Many people claim the benefits of potassium found in a single banana. But did you know, you can also get adequate potassium in your diet by eating a stalk of broccoli? Try a salad of fresh young spinach topped with pine nuts and stirred with lightly cooked penne’. Feta cheese and a light vinaigrette dressing to create the perfect light luncheon meal.

Whole Grains

image from @vesnoi_

Like many other of the best foods, choosing only one type of whole grain for your meals doesn’t provide all the variety you need to be nutritionally sound. Often, mixing two or more whole grains together will give you complete proteins. For example, brown rice and wheat kernels with a spicy seasoning are a popular dish in many countries.

Salmon

image from @SmitBruins

Salmon is lean fish and nutritionally one of the best fish choices. It is rich in Omega-3 oils that are noted as helping improve the functioning of the brain. Salmon baked whole with just lemon or lime as a seasoning makes a fantastic main dish or a hearty luncheon featured menu item. Salmon is also commonly found in chilled seafood dishes.

A legume is the name for a variety of fruits with a single dry seed. Legumes are sometimes called pods. Examples of edible legumes are soybeans, peas, dried beans and peanuts, among others. Legumes are rich in iron and high in fiber, making them excellent nutritional choices. Peanuts are a type of legume that have been used to make hundreds of different products some edible and others with various types of helpful uses.

Nuts and seeds

Nature has packed a lot of goodness into small packages. Most everyone has heard of walnuts and pecans which are very good nutritional products, but did you realize that flax seeds are brain food–containing critical non-meat sources of the Omega-3 oil.

Lean proteins

image from @nina_p_v

The keyword here is lean. Americans eat far too much protein compared to the rest of the world. Cut down of portion sizes–three ounces will provide all the needed protein needed for your day. Also, trim all visible fat from your protein source. Alternatively, use non meat substitutes such as the complete proteins found in vegetable dishes like beans and brown rice.

Tea

image from @moyo.studio

Depending on the type of tea you prefer, you can get an energy boost from a cup of green tea, or the calming effect of chamomile tea. Get going with mint teas or start your day with Earl Grey Breakfast Tea. Herbal teas are soothing, tasty and good for you. Non herbal teas will help you to stay alert when you need help to function.

Olive oil

image from @korotkoffoto

Olive oil is probably the healthiest substance you can use to keep fat in your diet. You can use it on your salad, mix it with a little vinegar to create your own, or fry other foods in the hot oil. Just make sure that the temperature is not too hot so that the oil is broken down.

Take a few moments and do a self-assessment of how you currently eat.

1. Make a list of the meals you now eat. Become familiar with beans, seitan, and other plant-based protein and substitute them for meat in your favorite stews, chili, and soups.

2. Rethink vegetable side dishes: Add beans and/or grains to make a more substantial meal.

3. Avoid bleached grains and pastas—white bread and white pasta are nutritionally deficient—and focus on whole grains foods. Prepare more fresh vegetables to go with them.

4. Each week, prepare at least two or three new vegan recipes. Soon, you will have a full repertoire to rotate and keep your meals interesting.

5. Take a new approach to breakfast and lunch using soy milk on your cereal and making your sandwiches on whole-grain breads.

6. Keep a well-stocked pantry so you never have an excuse not to cook a great vegan meal.

7. When dining out, patronize restaurants that offer vegan options. Many Thai and Chinese restaurants prepare great tofu and vegetable dishes, and Indian restaurant menus contain wonderful bean and vegetable items (just be sure they omit ghee or yogurt). There are also vegan options in Italian, Mexican, Greek, Moroccan, and other cuisines
